When you think of your body, your physical form, of what is it made? What are the ingredients of you? We learn all about how bodies are filled with organs, muscles, blood, guts, and cells, but there is more to the story than all of those amazing parts. We are made of energy, just like every other aspect of the Universe. We have energy flowing through us and around us, and the more we become aware of its existence, the more we will feel and understand how to work with it.
Our body is filled with an abundance of energy. A perfect place to begin learning about our physical energy is to focus on the seven Chakras, or energy centers, in the human body. Ancient cultures, including Buddhist and Hindu, discovered and identified Chakras, a Sanskrit word that translates to "wheel". These energy centers are like spinning balls of light (or wheels) found in specific locations of our body, and have unique connections to our human experience. To begin exploring your chakras, let’s start with an introduction, a mantra, a crystal, and a few sparkle inducing practices to support each energy center.
Located at the base of the spine, the Root Chakra is embodied by the color red. This chakra represents our desire to survive, our life force, our family of origin, our basic needs, and our financial stability.
Mantra: I am SAFE & GROUNDED
Crystal: Red Jasper
Create a gratitude list.
Spend a day focused on hydrating your cells. Drink extra water, visualizing your cells filled with everything they need to thrive.
Bask in the beauty of nature.
Located below the belly button over the sex organs, the Sacral Chakra is embodied by the color orange. This chakra represents our sexuality, creativity, trust, and pleasure.
Mantra: I am CREATIVE
Crystal: Orange Calcite
Make a point to dance throughout the day! Brushing your teeth? Dance! Making coffee? Dance! Waiting for the bus? Dance!
Spend time mindfully coloring or doodling.
SOLAR PLEXUS CHAKRA
Located in the upper abdomen over the small intestine, the Solar Plexus Chakra is embodied by the color yellow. This chakra represents our identity, self-esteem, personal power, self-image, confidence, and worthiness.
Mantra: I am WORTHY & STRONG
Practice slow, Yin yoga stretching.
Massage your skin with oil, while affirming yourself (you could use the mantras for this!).
Located in the center of the chest over the heart, the Heart Chakra is most often embodied by the color green, although sometimes will be shown with the color pink. This chakra represents love and your ability to both give and receive love and joy.
Mantra: I AM LOVED
Crystal: Jade (green) or Rose Quartz (pink)
Challenge yourself to a random act of kindness. Bring someone flowers, buy a stranger a coffee, or make a point to compliment as many people as possible.
Express your love for important people in your life in a more vulnerable way than usual.
Located in the center of the neck over throat, the Throat Chakra is embodied by the color light blue. This chakra represents making decisions, speaking your truth, and communicating your feelings.
Mantra: I am EXPRESSIVE & HEARD
Crystal: Blue-laced Agate
Sing! Not only does this support the energy in your throat chakra, but it also stimulates your vagus nerve, which may promote positive mood.
Spend a day doing anything YOU desire. The day is completely up to you, your choice, and your voice.
THIRD EYE CHAKRA
Located in the center of the forehead, between your eyes, the Third Eye Chakra is embodied by the color indigo. This chakra represents awareness, focus, clear visualization, and intuition.
Mantra: I am CONNECTED
Design a vision board to call in the future of your dreams.
Challenge yourself to eat mostly plants for a day; bonus points for as many different (and colorful!) plants as possible.
Located just above the center of the head, the Crown Chakra is embodied by the color violet. This chakra represents our connection with all things spiritual.
Mantra: I am DIVINE
Explore a new style or form of meditation.
Spend time actively focused on your breath.
Now that you have been introduced to these seven chakras, consider which could benefit from attention. If energy in a chakra becomes stagnant or too intense, we may find ourselves feeling out of balance. By becoming aware of these energy centers and focusing on giving them attention, we are taking steps towards balance. When we take steps towards natural balance, we sparkle.
