Happy 2018, dear Sparklers! The pages of 2017 are turning to close our most recent chapter, while the pages of 2018 are beginning to reveal all the beauty, magic, and sparkle of the future. Are you ready?
I can’t help but reflect about how the shift from one year to the next was exactly what prompted me (over a decade ago?!) to say the words “my resolution is to get my sparkle back”. I wish I could travel back in time to thank old me and get her stoked about how real that resolution would become… eventually. I had no idea just how much I would grow, change, and sparkle when I began listening to my body and honoring myself.
Life doesn’t usually change overnight, and for that I am grateful, but the intentions that we set can help us to begin to get the wheels in motion. Because I am always in the continuous practice of untapping my sparkle, I know that each and every moment and decision can build on our wellness. Every small shift, new idea, or moment of questioning a pattern or old story provides us with a chance to look at ourselves in a fresh light and to learn something new. These moments of learning are how are lives change. Change doesn’t mean that you are a new person; it means that by knowing more we thrive as humans.
Setting intentions is one of my favorite practices, whether it is for a new month, new moon, new season, or new year. Whenever we take time to reflect on what we want, we are directing our energy towards activating exactly what we are seeking.
My intentions for 2018:
- #Whole30MakesMeSparkle: a great way for me to connect with myself in a deep way. Whole30 is one of my most potent practices to learn new information about what my body wants and needs, and completing one in January is a tradition that starts my new year off in a positive way.
- Continue my #yearofintuition: prioritize my connection with myself and my gifts.
- I promise not to be an asshole to myself: This simple statement holds so much within it. I am an asshole to myself when I put others needs above my own. When this happens I can quickly fall into old habits like over scheduling myself, people-pleasing, and numbing my emotions and needs with food. The result is that I disconnect from my self, my wellness, and my sparkle. This year, I promise not to be an asshole to myself.
- Own my magic: It can be easy to get caught up in work, schedules, and to do lists, which may lead to feeling a bit like a robot. While my work, responsibilities, and to do lists have their place, I own my magic by recognizing that there is so much more than the routines. I am actively embracing the woo-woo, the whimsical, and all those small yet significant moments and practices that remind me that we are tiny creatures spinning on a big blue ball flying through space. I love to find meaning in all of it, and to me, that brings the synchronicity, sparkle, and magic.
What are you calling in to 2018? Do you have any favorite personal practices to ring in this new year? My first week of the year I really enjoy dreaming about intentions and goals (creative sparkle practice: vision board making!), pulling oracle and tarot cards for my personal themes for the year, and reading my favorite horoscopes.
When we own our magic, we truly sparkle.
